What is a Guest Post 2021
Here’s a question we get a lot from our clients:
What is a guest post? How is guest post different than a regular blog post?
A Guest Post is an article written and posted on another blog or website. When you write something on your blog it’s just called “POST“, but on someone else’s blog, the writer is a ‘#GUEST’. Guest posts are a valuable way for marketing reputation for many reasons like getting your brand mentioned or occupying branded, links search query results. But most people use them to embed backlinks.
We’ll assume you are doing it both to get the words out and hope to get a link back to one of your websites.
The basics of guest posting guidelines
Here are a few guidelines you should know before writing guest posts. There is a lot of information on the web about this subject (guest posting, how to do it, tips and tricks). But here are the quick and simple basics about guest posting guidelines.
Important Things to Remember About Guest Post
- Guest posts must be well-written. Search engines are beginning to get choosy, people too, nowadays people are searching for long-tail keywords.
- Post must be on-topic. People just want to read them to get knowledge or maximum value.
- People should want to share them using reference links or via social media. Sharing increases readership.
- Outbound links must be helpful and relevant to the article or post. Anchor text over the links accurately.
- Post word Count also matter if you want to Rank(more than 1000 words )
Who can write a guest post
Any educated person can write a guest post, but few can write a really good one that Ranks or gets Viral. You can’t generally “make” a post go viral. But it does not need to go viral. It just needs to be helpful, easy to understand, on-topic, and well-written to generate traffic and link juice over time. A good guest post is on-topic, relevant, simple to understand, and can be of various lengths. Most guest posts are between 500 and 1000 words but it also depends upon the competitor’s word count and if you want to rank higher so here you have to see many things like if your competitor blog post around 2000 words so you should try for 2500 words. Data suggest that more content means your web page has odds for a high position in Google search results(SERPs). Sometimes it’s worth hiring a professional to write guest posts because doing so, consistently is important. Once or Two per week at least, and who has time for professional work? Well, here we are to help you out.
Blog post headline basics
Let’s say you are in the Digital Marketing business and that the search phrase you want to protect or improve is ‘Best Digital Marketing Company For Startups and Brands’. In this case, if you may have written articles for posting on someone else’s blog, and those posts may have had titles like these:
- Best Digital Marketing Company
- Top Digital Marketing Questions Answered
- Digital Marketing tips and tricks!
- No. 1 Digital Marketing Throughout History
- Digital Marketing in New York, India.
- Affordable Digital Marketing Services.
- If you’re a Digital Marketing Company, these are accurate (and compelling) headlines for your niche. Remember, the objective of a headline is to get clicked in search results SERPs.
But also keep in mind that some headlines can have clickbait. Clickbait is a text/word or a thumbnail link that is designed to attract people attention and to entice users to follow that link and read view, or listen to the linked piece of online content, with a defining characteristic of being deceptive, typically sensationalized, or misleading) headlines are meant to bait you into clicking (hence the name) but the content doesn’t always measure up to what you wanted. Sometimes it does though. Headline ideas for your guest posts

Embedding Relevant Links
Within each of these articles is an opportunity to embed your link. So let’s say that these are the web addresses of three positive web results you are working for or want to promote. One of them is your website, the other two are existing positive articles about your business that already show up high in search results, but not high enough right now. So this is your list of links you want to promote.
But people or websites don’t just want to reference your sites. They want to reference other authorities as well. Outbound links to other sites #authorities website with high (DA/PA) score.
So in the first article ‘Best Digital Marketing Company For Setups and Brands’ you’ll want to embed a link to unshakable.in. Your article might look something like this:
One of the most often asked questions about Unshakable Digital Marketing Company ‘what are the Unshakable Digital Marketing Services ?’. We are providing all types of digital marketing services like SEO, Local SEO, link building, Lead Generation, SMM at a low cost. At Unshakable we’ve found the best ones to be the Digital Marketing agency.
The paragraph above has the word ‘Unshakable’ as a hyperlink. And if you click on the link it would take you to the website Unshakable.in. (if you do click on it, it will take you to our home page). Your blog will probably make this very easy so you don’t need to write any HTML, but if you do, here is what it might look like:
But what number of Links?
Zero, if they are not relevant. But if they’re relevant and helpful to your article you wish to position the correct number of links, and there’s no set number. The Question is “this technique will help to improve website Ranking or Content ?” If it doesn’t then don’t add it or if it indicates any Services or words to your Website, Services, or Product so link it. Quality is more important than links in the long term.
But, if you continue to need a suggestion then, generally speaking, place only 1 link from a guest post into every 500 words. So a 1000 word guest post could probably handle up to 2 or even three links. whether or not your guest post is awesome, too many links can make it appear spammy whether or not it isn’t. Remember, it’s about the reader’s perspective – not your need for linking only
Back in Jan 2014, Matt Cutts of Google said this “Okay, I’m calling it: if you’re using guest blogging as some way to realize links in 2014, you must probably stop. Why? Because over time it’s become a more and more spammy practice for your brand, and if you’re doing plenty of guest blogging then you’re hanging out with really bad company.” Has guest posting died since then? Nope. But web spam has got to an oversized degree. we do not think that guest posting in and of itself will ever die. Imagine major publications without contributors. But as Google upgrades and Rank Brain continues to roll out, abuse of the practice should disappear.
We think Google uses stylometry(the analytic study of literary styles) to ID authors
There could also be something to Google’s disdain for SEO fanatic overusing guest posts. At Reputation X we believe that Google uses a kind of stylometry together with many other methods like link profiles and scraped content to spot blogs and authors using guest posts to create links.
Stylometry is the practice of identifying an author that supported their variety of writing.
How might this work? Thousands of websites exist simply to sell links. someone buys an editorial on the location, they place content, embed a link to their site, and it gets posted. the thought is that Google will find the article, follow the link to the target site, and count the link as an authority signal – eventually helping to rank the target page higher in search results. This practice was common until 2012 when Google made an update to defeat (PBN’s)Private Blog Networks.
An entire industry dedicated to paid guest posts
There is a whole industry-supported paid guest posting. An SEO guest post writer may generate 1000 articles on different subjects or topics for placement under various names on many websites. But if Google bots use stylometry to spot that author across many websites they will then identify the websites that are probably selling links in guest posts. We expect this is often one among the methods Google’s Penguin update comes from 2012.
So if you are going to use guest posts for SEO watch out for using sites that screw regularly, or worse – all the time. You’ll spend money but the links won’t count because Google’s Penguin algorithm update (June 2019) runs in real-time. nobody will tell you the link isn’t passing authority, not even Google, and not the one that purchased the link.
Google wants guest posts to incorporate Nofollow links
Google is asking blog owners who allow guest posts to tag the links from their blogs with NOFOLLOW or the same directive so that Google knows the link might not be trustworthy – whether or not the link is trustworthy.
Nofollow might hurt SEO
It will be interesting to work out what number of bloggers add the Nofollow attribute to outbound links. Why? Because adding rel-Nofollow to outbound links removes much of the motivation for people to contribute content to a blog as a guest contributor. Some people just want to urge the word out, but in our experience, the overwhelming majority of individuals who contribute to blogs hope for a link.
Why? Because fresh, high-quality content, could be a big SEO signal. It then follows that adding NOFOLLOW attributes to any or all links as a matter, after all, could also hurt the Google rankings of the blog.
